NEWS AND NAILS

First, allow me to direct you to a super interview of Moi, located at Veronika Asks:

Hope you like it!

Nails in the news recently: Our esteemed Florida governor vetoed legislation to increase training requirements for nail techs and cosmetologists. Now why would he deny this? Because it’s an issue that concerns women? Why would he not want safety standards raised for this industry? I cannot conceive why our top politician wouldn’t care to protect his constituents by raising the bar for beauticians and manicurists. Not only that, but the Florida Board of Cosmetology has approved a new rule to relax state inspection requirements for beauty and nail salons. What this means, dear consumers, is that you’d better come prepared to do your own on-site evaluation where you get your nails done.

On the writing front, new ideas are beginning to trickle into my brain. I’m not ready to work on them yet; just registering them for now. But it’s a sign that at some point, the creative tension will build until I have to let it gush out at the keyboard.

Gotta take the dog to the groomer’s today, then rush around to the post office and food store. I’m hoping to get the errands done before the tropical downpours we’re expecting. It’s already overcast outside.

People can buy fireworks for "agricultural" uses now in Florida. Gov. Christ snuck in that with an Ag. bill so all people now have to do is sign the waiver saying they are using fire works for agricultural purposes. Now if homeowners shoot them off the police or counties hands are now tied and not much can be done because it takes a lot to prove that the person is NOT using them illegally. Our neighbors are shooting off tons of fire works EVERY night..they bought their house last year and there is a 4 sale sign on it right now.. - we are in major drought status..evacuated last year for major fire luckily they got it under control with no damage just a lot of trees and the fire came so close to homes..but any way..the only way to stop the person is if the authorities see it themselves then they can do something. I live in the "country" so it takes a few minutes for police to get here. After they leave they wait for 1/2 hour or so and then they repeat the whole process..the wording of the bill lets all homeowners "off".
That bill that was passed through will hurt Florida if this drought continues. ANYWAY thank you for listening. Between the Education, the fires, the smoke, I just had to get it off my chest...Have a beautiful night

Phyllis, I understand your concern. I would like all private use of fireworks to be banned. Public displays could be allowed but that's all. Fireworks are a noise nuisance and they cause accidents, not to mention the fire hazard.
